Getting pictures with Santa is a time-honored tradition, but those who have four-legged “children” may feel left out of this fun milestone. That doesn’t have to be the case anymore. Whether you’ve been looking for a cute way to mark the years with your pet or an adorable photo for your Christmas cards, you have to check out these opportunities to get holiday photos with your best friend.
1. Calgary Humane Society
4455 110 Ave. SE, Calgary, AB
December 2, 2017, 11am to 3pm
The “Christmas Party for the Animals” offers a lot of fun for you and your pet. Sure, there’s the chance to take holiday photos with Santa, but you can also decorate a doggy treat and socialize with other animal lovers. This event is also a fundraiser, so be prepared to offer some donations. You can bring items to donate, purchase bake sale items or buy arts and crafts to give away as Christmas presents.
2. Pisces Pet Emporium
4921 Skyline Way NE, Calgary, AB 4G5
Multiple Weekend Dates
At Pisces Pet Emporium, you can get a free photo in exchange for a donation of a non-perishable food item to the Calgary Food Bank. You can help out families in need and get a picture of your pet with Santa at the same time. You need only bring one item for your donation, but please bring more if you are feeling generous. The photographer also offers photo packages at an additional cost.
3. Downward Dog Grooming
25 Main Street N, #6, Airdrie, AB
November 19, 2017, 11am to 3pm
The holiday photo event at Downward Dog Grooming is a bit different from the other photo events we've found in that there are special hours to allow those with reactive dogs to partake in the fun. Owners are welcome to bring their reactive dogs from 10am to 11am. All others should come during the normal hours. Photographs are done by Wildwood Photography, and you can receive your photo and a digital image for making a minimum $15 donation.
4. High Tails Pet Resort
261176 Range Road 290, Calgary, AB T3S
November 25 and 26, 2017
This is a fundraising event that benefits the Cochrane Humane Society. Santa will be present and you can have a photo of just your pet with Santa or one that includes the entire family. The digital image you’ll receive makes it easy to share with friends and family on social media or you can print it out on cards. Call High Tails Pet Resort at 403-226-0036, extension 3, to make an appointment.
PetValu Deer Valley
1221 Canyon Meadows Drive SE
November 25 and 26, 11am to 4pm
Santa will also be available for photo opportunities at PetValue in Deer Valley. You’ll get a picture just for making a donation to the ARTS Senior Animal Rescue. Once the photo is finished, you can easily shop for all the special things your pet has put on his Christmas list.
6. Tail Blazers
32 Panatella Blvd., Calgary, AB
November 25, 2017
Details about times and the organization that will benefit from the Santa photo event are still being worked out, but you can expect that this event will be popular for those who love Tail Blazers healthy pet foods. If this is the location you’d prefer, call the store for the latest news on the event.
Tips for Getting Santa Photos with Your Pet
Note that most of these events are expecting people to bring well-behaved dogs and social cats. If you have a bird, a reptile, or another unusual type of pet, it’s smart to call ahead. You’ll also want to think about how your pet might behave in a situation like this. There will be other pets around, so your pet should be generally comfortable around other types of animals.
Bring your pet on a leash or in a cage and remember that not all pets enjoy Santa. As jolly as he might be, the sight of that red suit, fake hat and booming “Ho, ho, ho” can spook some animals. Don’t force your pet to get a picture if he doesn’t seem comfortable.
All of these photo events are a great opportunity to create some fun memories of your pet but the best part is most of them are really about raising money for a pet-related organization. In the season of giving, you don’t want to forget the lovely animals that need your help as well.
