Like the McDonald's ketchup trick, where you pull on the edges of the little condiment holders in order to create more room for more ketchup. Alright, it might not be the most practical hack ever shared, but it works!

While life hacks might not always be the most useful tips in the world, there are a lot of storage hacks out there that make up for it. That's why we’ve compiled a list of some of our favourites for you to try out. We hope they help make your everyday storage and organization a little bit easier!

1. Magazine Racks And Plastic Wraps

There are actually many things you can do with magazine holders, but we’ll go with a classic. You’ve got an entire drawer full of tin foil, plastic wrap, and Ziploc bags. The boxes are easily stackable, but they inevitably take up a kitchen drawer in most homes. Next time you’re out at Staples or Wal-Mart, pick up a magazine holder and a bit of hardware. Mount your magazine holder on the inside of one of your kitchen cupboards and, voila! You’ve got a new plastic wrap holder and extra drawer space, too.

2. Wall Hooks And Measuring Spoons

Don’t leave the hardware section just yet, we’ve got another remedy for you. This time it's to help you organize your pantry. Pick up some picture hanging hardware, preferably some basic hooks that can be mounted with double-sided tape or adhesive. Install your hooks on the inside of another kitchen cupboard or the side of the cupboard. Now fetch all of those loose measuring spoons out of your “everything” drawer, and hang them on your hooks. Nice and tidy!

3. Hideaway Toilet Supplies

Let’s move on to the bathroom. This one takes the most effort of any on the list, but you’ll appreciate it when it’s finished. It’s never hard to spot the bathroom cleaning supplies only half-hidden around your bathroom. They aren’t the most pleasant of decorations. You can alleviate this problem by building a recessed storage cabinet. The building and installation itself isn’t too difficult, just be prepared to get a little messy while cutting drywall. It’s a great way to hide away your toilet supplies while keeping things neat. if building isn’t your thing, many home stores offer pre-made cabinets - all you have to do is install!

4. Organize With Pull Out Hampers

Here’s a great way to streamline your laundry routine while organizing your laundry room at the same time. You know those under-the-counter, sliding garbage can tracks? They’re available as laundry bin tracks as well. Simply install them in your laundry room cupboard space and hide them away. It helps keep laundry in order, and it gives everyone a central location for their dirty clothes. Hopefully, this helps eliminate those piles on the floor as well!

5. Picture Ledges Are The New Bedside Tables

Here’s a bit of ingenuity for you. Are you finding it difficult to fit your bedside table in your bedroom? Repurpose a picture ledge as a nightstand. Choose the right size and it can hold anything: wallet, keys, phone, glasses, bobby pins, chocolate. Hey, we’re not here to judge! Hang your picture ledge at or near floor level for the perfect bedside table replacement.

6. Storage Ottomans and Chests

Let us introduce you to the storage ottoman. There’s not much more that needs to be said here. It simply helps you maximize your floor space while still providing a comfy place to sit. Similarly, storage chests can double as coffee or end tables, making it easy to stow away blankets, games and other odds and ends. There’s no shortage of fun, vintage storage chests on Kijiji. Have fun exploring!

7. Hidden Printer Drawer

Thankfully the days of big boxy computer monitors are long gone, and most of our devices are sleek and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The home printer remains the exception. Let’s not even talk about the printer, scanner, and copier combo machines. They’re a whole different story. Despite their bulkiness, a lot of home printers now feature remote printing capabilities, or at the very least require a single USB cord to connect your device with your printer. If you’re looking for a new desk, take advantage by purchasing one with a hidden printer drawer. It’s not only convenient but acts as a perfect hiding spot for your not-so-pretty printer.

A little creativity goes a long way in the home. It doesn’t matter which room you choose, there’s always a way to tidy things up and maximize space. Sometimes it just takes a little ingenuity or re-purposing. No matter the home style, a little more space is always welcome. We hope these storage ideas get your own creativity flowing!
